I was a member of several honor societies in high school (Spanish, History and National Honor Societies) which required me to tutor students in those specific subjects.Now that I have the privilege to go to a prestigious university such as Tufts, I want to be able to use my education to help others.

For almost five years I was the head of a youth movement which focused on working with children and giving them a voice. I was also a camp counselor for two summers in an aquatic sports camp. I have had experience working with kids, so I feel like I will be able to form a good relationship with the student and help him with his subjects.

In terms of my academic strengths, I am working on a minor in history and have a passion for English (writing and literature). Also, I am from Colombia so I speak Spanish fluently.

Hobbies:

I was born in Colombia, moved to Israel and then to Miami.I really enjoy traveling and meeting people from different cultures.
My favorite movies are Amelie, Almost Famous, and Hable con Ella.

I have worked with children at summer camp the last three summers, and have always found the most fulfiling part of the work to be watching a kid display a new skill I have taught him or her (even if it is something as seemingly minute as knowing the rules of kickball). I also worked for two years as a classroom assistant at my Hebrew School, where I had the more challenging experience of teaching kids a foreign language with a completely new alphabet.
I have discovered in my time working with kids that I have a good resevoir of patience. I have also learned how to strike the right balance between being firm without being overly authoritarian and being flexible while still maintaining control over the situation. I want to be a tutor so I can continue working with kids, this time in a one-on-one capacity.

I spent the past year abroad in Madrid studying at a Spanish university, further solidifying my language skills.
